The Island Conservation Society (ICS) Centre on Alphonse Island plays a vital role in preserving the island’s unique ecosystem. Since its establishment in 2007, ICS has been at the forefront of conservation efforts in the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, working tirelessly to maintain the island’s pristine environment. Their dedicated team of scientists and rangers focuses on a variety of initiatives, including protecting endangered species, monitoring habitats, and enhancing biodiversity across the atolls.
Visitors to Alphonse can actively participate in conservation activities led by ICS, such as Turtle Patrol, where they can observe and assist in the protection of nesting sea turtles. Another highlight is the opportunity to witness the majestic Aldabra Giant Tortoises, which have thrived on Alphonse thanks to ICS’s reintroduction programme. There are currently 51 tortoises on the island, ranging from hatchlings to fully grown adults, all carefully monitored to ensure their continued survival. Bird-watching enthusiasts will also appreciate guided walks, which showcase the diverse avian species that find sanctuary in this unspoiled habitat.
ICS’s work is integral to the balance of the island’s ecosystem, ensuring that Alphonse remains a haven for wildlife and a model for sustainable eco-tourism. Through their efforts, guests not only enjoy a memorable wildlife experience but also contribute to the preservation of one of the world’s last untouched paradises.
We have carefully crafted various diverse itineraries that highlight the unique experiences at our breathtaking island destinations.
