Take a half or full day excursion across the lagoon to the mangroves on Menai island. Skirt the edges of this huge mangrove forest and learn about the many diferent species of mangroves. This is a top spot for bird-watching, particularly red – footed boobies that roost in the tree tops. Among the roots and trunks look for red mangrove crabs and see if you can find the huge blue mangrove crabs. As the tide pushes in and around the trees do not be surprised if a curious sicklefin lemon shark lurks waiting for small prey to leave the shelter of the mangrove.
